Originating from the southeast of Mt Kilimanjaro, the course begins at Marangu Gate, conveniently close to our base at Aishi Machame Hotel. The journey there takes approximately 90 minutes. This route boasts a well-trodden trail traversing through all the ecological zones—from tropical rainforest to eternal ice—and offers captivating African vistas. Being the most popular and economical, the route can become crowded during July-September and December-March. Opting for a 6-day itinerary is strongly recommended over the 5-day option for better acclimatization.

DAY 1: Arrival & Briefing

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a friendly representative from Kiliholidays will be there to welcome you. You’ll then be comfortably transferred to Weru Weru River Lodge or similar accommodation. DAY 2: Trek from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you’ll meet your guide and the mountain support crew. Travel by vehicle to Marangu Gate (1,860 m), the starting point of your trek in Kilimanjaro National Park. Once permit formalities are taken care of, your journey on foot begins towards Mandara Hut (2,700 m) through the enchanting rainforest. Along the way, you’ll likely encounter diverse flora and fauna. Upon arrival at Mandara Hut, our attentive crew will set up camp and prepare a delicious lunch for you to enjoy. You’ll spend the night in comfortable huts.

DAY 3: Trek from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

After a nutritious breakfast, you’ll depart Mandara Hut for a scenic trek to Horombo Hut (3,720 m). This day’s journey offers stunning views of the majestic Kibo and Mawenzi volcanoes. Following lunch at Horombo Hut, you’ll embark on an acclimatization hike towards Kibo Hut, aiding in your adjustment to the altitude. Dinner will be served back at Horombo Hut as you relax and soak in the beauty of your surroundings.

Today begins with a leisurely breakfast before setting out on an acclimatization hike towards Kibo Hut. This hike is essential for preparing your body for the challenges ahead. After a satisfying lunch, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the surrounding area, take in breathtaking views, or simply rest and recharge for the remainder of your journey. DAY 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Following breakfast, you’ll commence your trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700 m). The terrain becomes increasingly challenging as you ascend, so it’s important to maintain a steady pace and conserve your energy for the upcoming summit push. Upon reaching Kibo Hut, you’ll enjoy a hearty lunch and have time to rest and prepare mentally for the exciting ascent to Uhuru Peak.

DAY 6: Ascend to Uhuru Peak and Descend to Horombo Hut

Before dawn, you’ll begin the exhilarating ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) from Kibo Hut. While the physical demands are moderate, the high altitude presents a significant challenge. Each pair of climbers will be accompanied by a guide, ensuring your safety and providing support along the way. After successfully reaching the summit, you’ll have the option to descend to the nearest glacier before returning to Kibo Camp for a brief rest. From there, you’ll continue your descent to Horombo Hut, where you’ll spend the night. Exercise caution during the descent to prevent accidents. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

DAY 7: Descend from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

After a satisfying breakfast, you’ll begin your descent from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate. Finally, you’ll be transferred back to Weru Weru River Lodge, where you can relax and reflect on your incredible journey.
